The ENGWE EP-2 Boost claims a longer range than eighty-six percent of our catalogue, from a 250W motor that keeps it inside UK road law. No licence, no tax, no insurance.
Long range usually means a big motor or a restricted machine. This is neither, and it folds into a car boot.
Where the range comes from
Not from a large battery: the pack here is around the middle of our range. It comes from a 250W motor working within itself on twenty-inch wheels, which give it more leverage than a large wheel would.
The panel below turns the capacity into energy per mile, which is the fair way to compare this against a heavier bike with a bigger pack.
Large rotors, on mechanical brakes
The discs are a hundred and eighty millimetres front and rear, which is larger than most bikes at this price fit. A bigger rotor gives more leverage and sheds heat better on a long descent.
They are cable-operated rather than hydraulic, so one Allen key adjusts them and a set of pads costs a few pounds anywhere. On a folding bike that goes in a car boot and gets knocked about, that simplicity is worth something.
Fifty-five newton metres through small wheels
Twenty-inch wheels give the motor mechanical advantage, which is why a compact folder pulls away better than its rating suggests.
They also keep the standover height low, so getting on and off with a loaded rack is easy.

- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
