It charges from a USB-C cable
The ENGWE Zip folds to the size of a cabin bag, weighs 43 lbs, and charges over USB-C from a 100W GaN brick rather than a proprietary barrel plug.
Road legal at 250W, certified to EN15194 by TUV: no licence, no tax, no insurance, nothing to register.
Why the charging port matters more than it sounds
Every other bike we sell needs its own charger, and if you leave it at home the bike is a heavy bicycle until you get back.
This one takes USB-C Power Delivery. The charger that came with it is a 100W GaN brick the size of a phone charger, and in a pinch a laptop charger will do something useful too.
It is the difference between a bike that travels with you and one that is tethered to a cupboard.
A triple fold, and the numbers to check it fits
ENGWE hold a patent on the three point fold, and the folded size is published rather than described:
- Folded to 62.5 by 37.4 by 67.3 cm
- Nineteen point four kilograms with the battery in
- Sixteen point nine kilograms with it out
- Quick release pedals and a folding stem
Measure the boot, the cupboard or the space under the desk before you order. That is what the numbers are for.
A torque sensor on a folding bike
Forty newton metres from a 250W rear hub, controlled by a torque sensor rather than a cadence sensor.
The distinction matters most on a small bike. A cadence sensor gives you all or nothing a beat after you start pedalling, which on sixteen inch wheels feels like being shoved. A torque sensor scales the motor to how hard you push, so it feels like your own legs.
Very little folds this small and still has one.
Three ranges, honestly labelled
ENGWE publish what the bike does at each assist level rather than one headline: 120 km on level one, 85 km on level two, 60 km on level three.
Our figure is 37 miles. The 360 Wh pack uses LG cells with a battery management system, and it comes out of the frame to charge indoors.
The panel below turns that into energy per mile and gives the same three bands from our own arithmetic.
Hydraulic brakes and a suspension seatpost
Hydraulic discs with 160 mm rotors front and rear on a bike this light is generous. One finger stops it.
There is no suspension fork, but the seatpost has ten levels of adjustment and takes the sting out of a kerb, which on sixteen inch wheels is where you feel the road.
Water ratings, stated part by part
Most manufacturers quote one figure for the whole bike or none at all. ENGWE rate each part separately: IPX7 on the wiring, IPX6 on the display and lights, IPX5 on the motor and controller.
That level of detail is a maker who has actually tested it. A British winter is the environment this bike will live in.
Shimano gears and real components
A Shimano Tourney seven speed with a Rapidfire shifter and an 11 to 28 tooth cassette, on a KMC anti-rust chain.
Named parts rather than house brand ones, which means any shop can service it and the replacements are on a shelf rather than on a boat.
Lights, a colour screen and an app
A 30 lumen headlight and an always-on tail light, both off the main battery. A 3.2 inch colour display with Bluetooth, and an ENGWE app if you want it.
The always-on rear light is the useful one: nothing to switch on and nothing to forget.
Before the first ride
It arrives folded and essentially built.
- Unfold, then check the frame hinge, the stem and the seat clamp are all locked
- Fit the quick release pedals
- Set the saddle between 95 cm and 105 cm
- Bed the hydraulic brakes in at walking pace
- Charge to full once over USB-C before the first ride
Sixteen inch wheels and a steel frame
The frame is steel, not aluminium, which is where some of the 43 pounds went and why a triple fold can be trusted to hold.
Sixteen inch wheels on 1.95 inch urban tyres drop into potholes that a big wheel rolls over, and the payload is 120 kg, lower than ninety six per cent of our catalogue.
Buy it for tarmac, bike paths and gravel, for a commute with a train in the middle of it, and for the fact that it charges from the same cable as your laptop. On that job nothing else we sell comes close.

- Do the bikes need assembly?
- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
