The DYU T1 uses a magnesium alloy frame, which is why it weighs less than four fifths of our catalogue while carrying a battery and folding in half.

Weight is the specification that decides whether it gets folded
A folding bike too heavy to lift is a bike that stays unfolded in a hallway. Fifty-one pounds is light enough to put in a boot, carry up a step, or get onto a train without planning the manoeuvre first.
Magnesium is how the frame gets there: lighter than steel, and almost nothing else at this price uses it.
Twenty-inch wheels, the sensible middle
Larger than the fourteen and sixteen-inch wheels on the smallest folders, so it rides steadily rather than nervously, and small enough to keep the folded package compact.
For most riders that is the better end of the trade, and it is why twenty inches is the size most folding bikes settle on.
Magnesium does not rust
It also does not corrode the way steel does when a bike lives in a damp shed, gets rained on at a station, or spends the winter under a cover on a balcony.
On a bike designed to be left places, that matters more than it sounds.
Thirty-five newton metres, on a light bike
Modest torque, and on a bike this light it does not need to be more. There is far less to move than on a seventy-pound folder, so the same motor goes further and works less hard.
Assistance stops at the legal limit, where the gearing and your legs take over.

It is worth asking us before you order, and it should be: brakes are not a detail on any bike, folding or not.
A small battery and a low weight limit
Ten amp-hours is among the smaller packs we sell, and the thirty-seven mile claim is measured at the lowest assist level on flat ground. The bands in the table below are the realistic version, and winter takes more off them.
The rated payload is also lower than almost everything else on our shelf: check it in the table against your own weight plus what you carry. Buy this for the low weight and the magnesium frame, which are real and unusual at the price. Do not buy it for a long hilly commute.

- Do the bikes need assembly?
- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
