A fat bike that publishes its own efficiency figure
The DYU FF500 is a 500W fat tyre bike at £1,489, and DYU state something almost nobody does: it uses 1.08 kWh per 100 km.
At 500W it sits outside the UK road rules, so we sell it for private use on private land. Please read the panel above before you order.
Where you can and cannot ride it
An electrically assisted pedal cycle is capped at 250W continuous. This motor is rated at 500W, and DYU quote a maximum of 20 mph against an average of 15.5.
It is sold for your own property, or land where the owner has given you permission. On a road or a cycle path it would need registration, tax, insurance and a licence.
One point zero eight kilowatt hours per hundred kilometres
That is a measured consumption figure rather than a range claim, and it is far more useful, because a range claim depends on how the manufacturer rode it and this does not.
At UK electricity prices it is a few pence per hundred kilometres. The panel below does the same sum from our own arithmetic, and you can check one against the other.
The rest of the numbers DYU publish
This is an unusually complete specification sheet, and the detail is the kind an engineer wrote rather than a marketing department:

- A 45 amp current limit and a 41 volt under-voltage cut-off
- Motor rated speed of 340 revolutions per minute
- A fuse in the battery
A maker who publishes a controller cut-off voltage is a maker who has one.
Fourteen amp hours of 18650 cells
The 18650 is the standard cylindrical cell, the same format used in power tools and laptops. It is not the newest format, and that is rather the point: it is the most manufactured and best understood cell in the world.
DYU claim about 70 km, which is 43 miles, and the pack comes off the frame to charge indoors.
Twenty by four inch fat tyres
Four inches wide on a twenty inch rim. Run soft they float over sand, gravel, wet grass and snow instead of cutting into it.
On private ground in winter that is the whole reason to buy a fat bike, and the minus ten degree rating says DYU expect it to be used there.
IP54, and what that actually covers
Rated IP54: protected against dust and against splashing water from any direction.
That is rain and puddles, not a pressure washer and not immersion. It is an honest rating rather than an inflated one, and knowing the limit is what lets you respect it.
Three hundred and thirty one pounds carried
A hundred and fifty kilograms rated, above the middle of our catalogue, on a sixty eight pound bike.
Seven to eight hours to a full charge on the supplied 54.6 volt charger, so plan it as an overnight job.

What is not on the sheet, and who it is not for
DYU do not state a frame material or a torque figure, so the table below leaves both rows out rather than filling them in.
It is not for public roads, and at £1,489 it is not the cheapest way into a fat bike either; we list several under a thousand pounds. What you are paying for is a specification written by someone who measured it, and a bike rated to work at minus ten degrees.

- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
