This Model Is Fully Compliant With UK Road Regulations
This bike is built to comply with UK Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) regulations, meaning it can be used on public roads and cycle paths without registration, tax, or a licence. Motor assistance is limited to 250W and cuts off at 15.5 mph (25 km/h).
See UK LegislationThis one carries 672 Wh of battery. The maker quotes 31 mi; in mixed riding with some hills, expect nearer 23 mi. A full charge costs about £0.19. Across a year that is roughly £977.00 less than making the same journeys by car, so the bike pays for itself in about 9 months. Everything here is worked out from this bike's own specification. Estimates, not promises: the assumptions are printed underneath.

Seventy five newton metres, hydraulic brakes, and it folds
The SAMEBIKE LO26-II-YD is a folding mountain bike with 75 Nm of torque and hydraulic disc brakes, at £689 from £1,049.
Road legal at 250W and 15.5 mph: no licence, no tax, no insurance, nothing to register.

Not to be confused with the FT-YD
We also list a SAMEBIKE LO26-II-FT-YD. That one is rated at 900W and 21.8 mph, which is above the UK limits for an electrically assisted pedal cycle, so its page carries a red notice and it cannot be ridden on a public road.
This is the road legal version of the same platform. If you want to ride on a road or a cycle path, this is the one you want, and we would rather say so plainly than let two similar names do the deciding.

Torque is what you feel, not wattage
Seventy five newton metres is strong for a 250W motor. Torque is what pulls you away from a standing start, up a hill, or out of a junction with a load on the back.
Plenty of 250W bikes give you forty. This one gives you nearly double, which is why it is sold as a mountain bike rather than a commuter.

Hydraulic brakes, front and rear
Hydraulic rather than cable operated. One finger is enough, they do not fade on a long descent, and they hold their bite when everything is wet and muddy.
On a folding bike at under seven hundred pounds that is a genuinely uncommon specification, and it is the right one for a bike meant to go downhill off tarmac.

Twenty six inch wheels, which fold anyway
Most folding bikes use twenty inch wheels, because they are easier to fold around. This one folds a full size 26 inch mountain bike, so you get a proper wheel that rolls over roots and rocks instead of climbing them.
Folded it goes in a car boot or a hallway cupboard. Unfolded it does not ride like a folding bike, which is the whole point.

Thirty one miles, and a hundred on paper
Our figure is 31 miles, which is toward the shorter end of our catalogue. SAMEBIKE quote up to 50 km on throttle alone and up to 100 km with pedal assistance from the 48 volt fourteen amp hour pack.
Those two numbers are measured differently and both are true. Plan around the mixed band in the panel below, not the headline.

The payload is the limit here
Two hundred and sixty five pounds, a hundred and twenty kilograms, which is lower than all but four per cent of our range.
That is rider plus everything on the bike. A fourteen stone rider with a loaded rucksack and a rack bag is close to it. If you are a heavier rider, or you carry a lot, look at one of the 330 pound bikes we list instead and we will point you at the right one.
It is a folding hinge that sets that limit, not a weak frame, and we would rather print the number than bury it.

Four to six hours on charge
An evening on a normal socket. The pack is removable, so it charges on a kitchen worktop rather than requiring the bike to be next to a plug.
Top it up rather than running it flat and it will still be healthy in three years.
Before the first ride
It arrives folded and largely assembled.
- Unfold and lock the frame hinge and the stem, then check both are tight
- Fit the pedals and set the saddle
- Bed the hydraulic brakes in at walking pace
- Check tyre pressure on both 26 inch wheels
- Charge to full once before the first proper ride
Who should not buy it
Anyone over the 265 pound combined limit, and anyone who needs to carry a bike up stairs regularly. SAMEBIKE do not publish a weight for this model and we will not invent one, but a 26 inch folding frame with hydraulic brakes and a 48 volt pack is not light.
Buy it if you want a real mountain bike that goes in a car boot, with the torque and the brakes to earn the name, and you can stay inside the payload.

- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
