Folds away for the part of the journey you cannot ride
The SAMEBIKE CY20 is for the commuter whose route has a gap in it: a train, a bus, a lift, the boot of a car. It folds in about fifteen seconds and takes up the floor space of a large suitcase.
With 56 miles of assisted range you charge it at the weekend rather than every night, and the 250W motor keeps it road legal here with no licence, tax or insurance to arrange.
Wide tyres make a bad road feel newer
The three-inch tyres are why this rides better than a folding bike has any right to. Broken tarmac, tram lines, a dropped kerb taken at an angle: they round the edges off instead of sending them up your spine.
A suspension fork handles what the tyres do not.
Seven gears, so you are not just a passenger
The Shimano seven-speed drivetrain gives you something to work with once you are past the assisted limit, and something to fall back on if the battery runs out.
A single-speed electric bike with a flat battery is a heavy sulk. This one is still a bicycle.
A throttle you can take off
There is a detachable throttle for pulling away from a junction without pedalling. Unusually, it comes off: if you would rather the bike behaved purely as a pedal-assist machine, or you are lending it to someone, you remove it rather than resist it.
Assistance itself has five levels, from a gentle nudge on the flat to full help on a climb.
It carries more than half our range
The rated payload is well above the middle of our catalogue, which is unusual on a folding frame. A rider plus a loaded pannier and the week's shopping sits comfortably inside it.

Folds into a cupboard, not just a car
Folded it is roughly the footprint of a large suitcase: a hallway cupboard, the space under a desk, or the boot of a hatchback with the back seats still up.
That is the whole argument for a folding bike, and plenty of them fold to a shape that only fits an estate car.
It fits a short rider and a tall one
The handlebar height adjusts over six inches and the saddle over a similar range, so one bike suits a household rather than a person.
Nothing has to be bought or swapped to move between the two.
Charges from any socket, and charges your phone
The battery fills from an ordinary socket in an evening, and the display carries a USB port, so a phone running a map does not arrive flat.
Charging often rather than running to empty is what keeps a pack healthy past the second winter.
Brakes you can adjust yourself
Mechanical disc brakes front and rear. Discs mean rain does not halve your stopping distance the way it does with rim brakes.
Cable-operated rather than hydraulic, which here works in your favour: one Allen key adjusts them and a set of pads costs a few pounds at any shop.
What to do before the first ride
It arrives largely built. Allow twenty minutes.
- Unfold the frame and the handlebar stem, then hand-tighten both clamps
- Fit the pedals and set the saddle to hip height
- Check tyre pressure and both brakes
- Decide whether you want the throttle fitted
- Charge it to full once before you start commuting
Not the bike for a fourth-floor walk-up
This is a steel-framed bike carrying a large battery, and it is heavy. If your commute has stairs at both ends and nowhere to leave it, you will resent lifting it long before the battery runs out.
It is not a touring bike or a trail bike either. There is no rear suspension, the brakes are mechanical rather than hydraulic, and the riding position is upright and urban. If you want your Sundays on bridleways, buy a mountain bike and keep this one for Mondays.

- Do the bikes need assembly?
- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
