Bike Accessories

Locks, lights, helmets, pumps and tools, chosen to suit the bikes we sell.

These are the parts a new electric bike actually needs in its first week: something to lock it with, something to be seen by, a helmet, a pump that copes with a fat tyre, and the tools to put a dropped chain back on at the side of the road.

How to Choose Your Electric Bike

Everything you need to pick the right e-bike for the way you ride.

1

What to Buy First

A lock, before anything else. An electric bike is worth more than the bicycle it looks like, and it is stolen more often for the same reason. After that, lights: the UK is dark by half past four for a third of the year, and a rear light is what stops the overtake happening too close.

A helmet is not a legal requirement in the UK on a road-legal e-bike, and it is the third thing we would buy anyway. Pumps and tools can wait until the first flat, but only if you like walking.

2

Fitting Them to an Electric Bike

Two things are different from an ordinary bicycle. Fat tyres take a lot of air, so a hand pump is slow work and a powered inflator is worth the difference. And the frames are heavier, so a lock that would be adequate on a road bike is being asked to protect twice the value.

Handlebar space is the other constraint: a display, a bell and a phone mount all want the same few inches. The mounts here clamp to the standard 22 mm bar next to a display rather than in place of it.

3

What We Do Not Sell

No batteries, no chargers and no motor parts. Those have to match the bike exactly, and a part ordered from a list on a website is the wrong way to buy one.

If you need a replacement battery or charger for a bike you bought from us, ask us and we will source the right one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions riders ask us most.

Yes. Every bike page lists the accessories that are in stock, with an add button, so they go into the same basket and arrive in the same delivery. You can also buy them on their own.

Yes. UK delivery is free on everything we sell, whether it is a bike or a puncture repair kit.

No. There is no law requiring a helmet on a road-legal electric bike in the UK, at any age. It is your choice, and we wear one.

Each lock page states the chain or cable length. As a rule you want enough to go around the frame, the rear wheel and a fixed object, which on a fat-tyre bike means more than on a slim one.

Its page says so and it is not offered on the bike pages while it is unavailable. We restock these regularly, so it is worth looking again in a few days.
