Magnesium alloy, hydraulic brakes, and it still folds
The ENGWE EP-2 3.0 Boost is the newer EP-2: a magnesium alloy frame, hydraulic dual-piston brakes and seventy-five newton metres, on a folding twenty-inch platform.
It is road legal at 250W, and it claims a longer range than eighty-five percent of our catalogue.
How it differs from the EP-2 Boost
The older EP-2 Boost costs around two hundred pounds less, claims a similar range, and uses mechanical brakes on a frame whose material the manufacturer does not state. This one is magnesium alloy, hydraulic, and has more torque.
If your riding is flat and mostly tarmac, the cheaper one does the same job. If you ride hills, carry a load, or want brakes that do not need adjusting, this is where the difference is. We would rather tell you which is which than sell you the wrong one.
Magnesium alloy, and why it is here
A folding hinge and fat tyres both add weight. Magnesium alloy is how the frame gives some of it back, and it is a material almost nothing else at this price uses.
It also does not rust, which matters on a bike stored in a shed or a boot.
Hydraulic dual-piston brakes
Two pistons per caliper, hydraulically operated. One finger is enough, they do not fade on a long descent, and they keep their bite when everything is wet.
On a seventy-pound bike that folds into a car and gets ridden somewhere hilly, that is the specification that earns its place.
Seventy-five newton metres, through twenty-inch wheels
Good torque for a road-legal bike, and small wheels to give the motor leverage. It pulls away harder than the 250W rating suggests.
Assistance stops at the legal limit; past that the gearing and your legs take over.

- Do the bikes need assembly?
- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
