The ENGWE L20 Boost claims a longer range than ninety-two percent of our catalogue, on four-inch tyres, from a 250W motor that stays inside UK road law.
Fat tyres usually cost range. Getting this figure out of them is the reason to look at this bike.
Seventy-five newton metres through twenty-inch wheels
Strong torque for a road-legal motor, and small wheels to give it leverage. It pulls away harder than the rating suggests, which on a heavy bike from a standing start is what you notice.
Assistance stops at the legal limit; past that the gearing is yours.
Wide tyres change what counts as a road
Four inches of tyre at low pressure turns gravel, wet grass, sand and broken tarmac into ordinary surfaces, and flattens the potholes on the way there.
They also work as suspension, which is why the ride stays comfortable without a rear shock.
Large rotors, on mechanical brakes
The discs are a hundred and sixty millimetres front and rear. A larger rotor gives more leverage and sheds heat better on a long descent.
They are cable-operated, so one Allen key adjusts them and a set of pads costs a few pounds anywhere, with nothing to bleed.
Aluminium, and it folds
A 6061 aluminium frame keeps the weight sensible for a bike on tyres this size, and it will not rust in a shed or under a cover.
Folded it goes in a car boot. At seventy-five pounds, treat the hinge as transport rather than a way to carry it.
Where the range comes from
Not from a large battery: the pack is around the lower middle of our catalogue. It comes from a 250W motor working within itself and small wheels that do not ask much of it.

Six and a half hours to fill
An overnight job rather than something between two trips, which suits a bike with this much claimed range: you will rarely be charging from empty.
Topping up rather than running flat is what keeps a pack healthy past its second winter.

- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
