The only mid-drive bike that folds on our shelf
The ENGWE L20 3.0 Pro puts its motor at the cranks instead of in the rear wheel, and pairs it with a torque sensor. The bike responds to how hard you push rather than to a switch, which is the difference between riding a bicycle and operating one.
Its 87-mile claim is higher than ninety-four percent of everything we sell, and it still folds into a car boot.
A torque sensor, not a cadence sensor
Cheaper bikes detect that the pedals are turning and then apply a fixed amount of help. This one measures the force you are putting through them and matches it.
The practical effect is that assistance arrives the instant you push and eases the instant you stop, so pulling away at a junction or easing into a corner feels like your own legs rather than a motor catching up.
A hundred newton metres, where the gears are
Because the motor drives the chain rather than the wheel, its torque passes through the gearing. Drop a gear on a steep climb and the motor gets the same mechanical advantage you do.
That is why a mid-drive climbs so much better than a hub motor of the same rating, and why this bike feels stronger than its 250W would suggest.
Suspension at both ends, on a folder
The fork is hydraulic with an adjustable lockout, and there is real travel at the rear. Firm both up for a smooth road, open them for a gravel track.
Almost no folding bike at any price has both. It is what makes a twenty-inch wheel tolerable on a bad surface.
Full in two hours
The charger is an eight-amp unit, roughly four times the output of the chargers that come with most bikes here. From empty to full takes about two hours.
That changes how you use the bike: a top-up over lunch is enough for an afternoon, rather than something you plan around overnight.
Samsung cells and a real management system
The pack uses Samsung 21700 cells with a management system watching over them. Cell quality is the part of a battery you cannot see and the part that decides whether it is still good in year three.

Hydraulic brakes with 180mm rotors
Dual-piston hydraulic calipers on large rotors, front and rear. They need one finger rather than a fistful, they do not fade on a long descent, and they do not lose their bite when the rim is wet because there is no rim involved.
On a bike that weighs what this one does, that is not a luxury.
Tyres built not to puncture
Three-inch urban hybrid tyres with a three-millimetre anti-puncture layer, on double-walled aluminium rims.
A puncture on a heavy folding bike a long way from home is the worst twenty minutes of owning one. This is the specification that quietly prevents it.
It knows where it is
An IoT module with GPS, 4G and Bluetooth is built in, and the ENGWE app talks to it. You can see where the bike is from your phone.
It is not a lock and it does not replace one. What it does is turn a stolen bike into a bike you might get back.
Lit, sealed, and legal
A thirty-lux front light with an integrated horn, and a rear light that brightens when you brake. The wiring is sealed to IPX7 and the electronics to IPX5 or better, which is the difference between a bike that shrugs off a British winter and one that develops a fault in February.
The motor is 250W and it carries CE EN15194 certification, so it is road legal here with no licence, tax or insurance.
Folding, fitting and what is in the box
Folded it is about the size of a large suitcase and goes in most car boots. The frame is step-through, the stem folds, and the seat clamp is quick-release.
It suits riders from roughly five foot one to six foot three, and the seat post has ten set positions rather than a smooth clamp, so a shared bike goes back to the right height every time.

Heavy, and expensive for a folder
Two honest limits. This is one of the heavier bikes we sell, and folding does not make it light: you will wheel it rather than carry it, and stairs at both ends of a commute will wear on you.
It is also near the top of our price list. If your ride is flat, short and on smooth tarmac, a hub-motor folder does that job for a third of the money. What you are paying for here is the mid-drive, the suspension and the range, and those only earn their keep on hills, on distance, and on bad roads.

- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
