A torque sensor and a twelve hundred lumen light, on a fifty pound folding bike
The PVY Z20 Pro EVO folds, weighs 50 lbs, and runs a torque sensor with a 1200 lumen headlight, at £769.
Road legal at 250W: no licence, no tax, no insurance, nothing to register.
A torque sensor is what separates this from its siblings
We list two other PVY Z20s, and both use a cadence sensor. This one uses a torque sensor.
A cadence sensor knows the pedals are turning and brings the motor in a beat later. A torque sensor measures how hard you are pushing and scales the motor to match. On a fifty pound bike, that difference is the whole character of the thing: it feels like your own legs got stronger rather than like a switch was thrown.
Narrow tyres, and why that is deliberate
Twenty by 2.125 inches rather than the four inch fat tyres on the rest of the Z20 range.
- Far less rolling resistance, which is where the range comes from
- Lighter, which is what makes fifty pounds possible
- Still wide enough for a canal path or a gravel track
- And a much smaller folded package
This is the commuter of the family rather than the all-terrain one.
Sixty kilometres on the motor, a hundred and twenty pedalling

Twelve hundred lumens on a seven hundred and sixty nine pound bike
Most bikes at this price fit a light to be seen by. This one lights an unlit lane well enough to ride it, and the housing is rated IPX5 against water jets.
Aim it down before your first night ride, because at 1200 lumens you will dazzle people otherwise.
Brakes that cut the motor
Mechanical discs with a power-off function: touching a lever stops the motor driving.
The brakes are cables rather than hydraulics, which is where the money was saved. But the power-off matters more than the brake type on a bike with a throttle, and it is fitted.
A throttle, and a walk mode
A throttle moves the bike with no pedalling at all, and walk mode drives it at up to 6 km/h beside you.
Walk mode is the one people discover in the second week: pushing a fifty pound bike up a ramp or through a gate is real work, and this removes it.
Ten degrees of climb, and we will not dress that up
PVY state a climbing ability of ten degrees, which is about one in six.
That is modest, and it is the honest consequence of fifty newton metres on a narrow tyred commuter. On flat urban routes and gentle hills it is exactly right. On a steep climb you will be helping it, and if your route has one, the Z20 Plus with its hundred newton metres is the bike to look at instead.

It arrives folded and largely built.

- Check tyre pressure, which matters more on 2.125 inch tyres than on fat ones

Who it is for
The payload is 265 pounds, toward the bottom of our catalogue, which is the folding hinge rather than the frame.
Buy it if you want a light folding commuter with a torque sensor and a real headlight, on tarmac and towpaths rather than trails. At fifty pounds with that sensor, very little else at this price comes close on how it feels to ride.

- Do the bikes need assembly?
- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
