A sixty three centimetre step over, on a forty three pound bike
The Fafrees F700W weighs 43 lbs, steps over at 63 cm, and runs a Shimano CUES nine speed with a torque sensor, at £964.

This one drops to 63 cm so you step through. The M is a conventional 85 cm crossbar. Nothing else differs, so choose on the frame shape and ignore the rest.
Why the dropped frame is worth choosing
It is not only about height. A low top tube changes how a bike is used every day.

A torque sensor on a light bike
The sensor measures how hard you press and scales the motor to it, rather than switching on a beat after the pedals start turning.
On a forty three pound bike that difference is the whole character of the thing. It feels like a bicycle you have got stronger on rather than a machine that assists you.

The motor stops helping at 15.5 mph. Above that it is you and the gearing, and nine closely spaced ratios is what keeps it pleasant rather than geared out. Almost everything at this price gives you seven.

Sixty two miles from a pack that small works because the bike is nineteen and a half kilograms on 42 mm tyres. Weight is what eats range, and there is very little of it here.

The dropped frame helps you get on and off; it does not change the fit. Fafrees size it for riders between 175 cm and 210 cm, with the saddle from 94 to 110 cm and the bar fixed at 110.
Under about 5ft 9in the reach will be long for you whichever frame you choose, and we would rather say that than sell you the step-through as a short rider's bike.

- Do the bikes need assembly?
- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
