Private Land Use Only.
Not for public roads, pavements or cycle paths. Its motor and assisted top speed are above the UK EAPC limits of 250W and 15.5 mph, which makes it a motor vehicle in law. It would need registration, insurance and a licence. Ride it on private land.

The manufacturer's figures, not ours.
This one carries 874 Wh of battery. The maker quotes 34 mi; in mixed riding with some hills, expect nearer 26 mi. A full charge costs about £0.24. Across a year that is roughly £974.00 less than making the same journeys by car, so the bike pays for itself in about 25 months. Everything here is worked out from this bike's own specification. Estimates, not promises: the assumptions are printed underneath.

Three wheels, 397 pounds of payload, and 180 mm hydraulic brakes
The Fafrees F20 Mate is a three wheeled machine rated to carry 397 lbs, higher than ninety one per cent of our catalogue, with 65 Nm, at £1,964.
At 500W it sits outside the UK cycle rules, so we sell it for private use on private land. Please read the panel above before you order.

Where you can and cannot ride it
An electrically assisted pedal cycle is capped at 250W continuous. This motor is rated 500W sustained with 750 at peak.
It is sold for your own property, or land where the owner has given you permission. On a road or a cycle path it would need registration, tax, insurance and a licence.

How it differs from the Mate HS
We also list the Fafrees F20 Mate HS at £2,164 on the same three wheeled frame.
That one has turn signals, a larger twenty one amp hour battery and an EU L2e-P type approval. This one has 18.2 amp hours, no indicators, and EN15194 certification instead. Two hundred pounds separates them, and the indicators are the part worth thinking about if anyone else shares the ground you ride on.

Three wheels changes who can ride
It does not fall over, and that single fact is the whole argument for a trike.
- Stable at a standstill with a load on board
- No balance needed to set off or stop
- Steady on wet grass and loose gravel where two wheels slide
- A 74 cm track, so it needs a gateway rather than a footpath

A hundred and eighty kilograms carried
Three hundred and ninety seven pounds on a machine that weighs eighty eight, with a rear rack and mudguards fitted.
Take your own weight off it and what is left is what the rack can carry. That is the sum that decides whether a trike can do your job.

Single speed, and that is deliberate
No derailleur and no shifter: one 36 tooth chainring driving a single 16 tooth sprocket.
Nothing to index, nothing to knock out of alignment, and no rear mech hanging where a trike's back end can catch it. The motor and its sixty five newton metres do the work gears would otherwise do.

One hundred and eighty millimetre hydraulic brakes
Hydraulic discs on 180 mm rotors, which on a machine carrying a hundred and eighty kilograms is the right specification rather than a luxury.
Bed them in properly before you ride it loaded, and check them before every ride.

Eight hundred and seventy watt hours
Forty eight volts and 18.2 amp hours, removable at 5 kg, filling in six hours. Fafrees quote 55 to 75 km.
A trike drags three tyres rather than two, and a large battery is what stops that costing you the day. The panel below turns the capacity into energy per mile.

Puncture resistant tyres and a sprung post
Chaoyang 20 by 3.0 inch puncture resistant tyres, a suspension seatpost with 15 mm of travel, and a 35 mm fork with lockout.
Puncture resistance matters more here than anywhere: you cannot wheel an eighty eight pound three wheeler home on a flat.

Before the first ride
It arrives folded and it is a two person unpack.
- Unfold and lock the frame and the handlebar, then check both
- Set the saddle between 82 cm and 106 cm
- Bed the 180 mm hydraulic brakes in at walking pace
- Set tyre pressure on all three wheels
- Charge to full before the first long ride

Who it is for
Fafrees size it for riders between 160 cm and 200 cm. It is not for public roads and at 74 cm wide it will not go everywhere a bicycle goes.
Buy it if balance is the thing standing between you and riding, or if you need to carry real weight over ground where two wheels would put it down. If you also want indicators, spend the extra two hundred on the HS.
