Full suspension, fat tyres, sixteen inch wheels
The VARUN Plorer is a small wheeled full suspension fat bike at £649 from £749, claiming 62 miles from a 48 volt system.
Road legal at 250W: no licence, no tax, no insurance, nothing to register.
Full suspension at this price is unusual
Front fork and rear shock, not one or the other. Combine that with four inch tyres run soft and you have three layers of cushioning between you and the road.
On a sixteen inch wheel that matters more than on a big one: small wheels drop into potholes that large wheels roll over, and the suspension is what stops that reaching you.
Sixteen inch wheels make it a small bike
A hundred and fifty centimetres long, handlebar at 105 cm. VARUN recommend riders between 145 cm and 175 cm, which is 4ft 9in to 5ft 9in.
That is the honest constraint on this bike, and it cuts both ways: if you are under 5ft 9in it will fit you properly where most electric bikes are built for someone taller. If you are over that, buy something with 26 inch wheels instead.
Sixty to a hundred kilometres
The claim is longer than nearly two thirds of our catalogue, on fat tyres, which takes some doing because wide tyres are not efficient.
The 48 volt system is part of why: higher voltage moves the same power at lower current, which means less heat and less sag when the motor is working.

IP65, which means you can ride it in the rain
Rated IP65 and CE certified, with a rust resistant chain. IP65 is dust tight and rated against water jets from any direction.
Most bikes at this price state nothing at all about water ingress. A rated figure is a manufacturer standing behind something rather than hoping.
Shimano seven speed and a cadence sensor
A seven speed Shimano rear derailleur with five levels of pedal assist on a cadence sensor. The sensor detects the pedals turning and brings the motor in.
It is a simpler system than a torque sensor, and it is what almost everything at this price uses. Expect the motor to arrive a moment after you start pedalling rather than in proportion to your effort.
Three hundred and thirty pounds carried, seventy seven pounds to move
A hundred and fifty kilogram payload on a thirty five kilogram bike. The frame is aluminium alloy, so nothing is rusting, but this is still heavier than seventy per cent of our range.

Who it is not for
Anyone over 5ft 9in, anyone with stairs, and anyone who wants to cover twenty miles quickly. Small wheels and fat tyres are a comfortable, stable, slow combination by design.
Buy it if you are within the height range and you want a soft, planted little bike that will take a rough path, a kerb and a wet winter without complaint. At six hundred and forty nine pounds with full suspension and an IP65 rating, very little else is comparable.

- Most electric bikes arrive 85 to 90 per cent pre-assembled. You will usually need to attach the handlebars, pedals, and adjust the seat. A basic tool set is often included.
- Are BikTron electric bikes legal to ride in the UK?
- Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
- What about the electric scooters?
- Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
