This one carries 360 Wh of battery. The maker quotes 25 mi; in mixed riding with some hills, expect nearer 19 mi. A full charge costs about £0.10. Across a year that is roughly £981.00 less than making the same journeys by car, so the bike pays for itself in about 5 months. Everything here is worked out from this bike's own specification. Estimates, not promises: the assumptions are printed underneath.

The smallest, lightest and cheapest bike we sell

The DYU D3F weighs forty-two pounds and costs less than anything else on our shelf. Fourteen-inch wheels put it closer to a folding scooter with pedals than to a bicycle, and that is exactly why people buy it.

It is road legal at 250W, so there is no licence, no tax and no insurance to arrange.

The cheapest way to find out if this suits you

An electric bike is a large purchase to make on a guess. This one is small enough in price that you can discover whether it fits your week before committing four figures to a bigger machine.

Plenty of people buy this, learn what they actually need, and keep it as the second bike.

DYU D3F Folding Electric Bike view 3

One person can lift it, which nothing else here manages

Forty-two pounds is light enough to carry up a step, put in a boot, or lift onto a rack without help and without planning.

Every other bike on this page is a two-handed job at best. This is the specification that decides whether a folding bike actually gets folded.

DYU D3F Folding Electric Bike view 4

It folds into a slab

Folded it is about twenty centimetres across: thin enough to slide behind a car seat, stand in a cupboard, or go in the boot of a small car alongside the shopping rather than instead of it.

Most folding bikes fold into a lump. This one folds into something you can post into a gap.

Small wheels: nimble in town, twitchy at speed

Fourteen-inch wheels turn quickly and store small, and they are darty compared with a full-size bike. Weaving through traffic to a station they are an advantage.

On an open road at speed they ask for more attention. That trade is the bike in one sentence.

Disc brakes at both ends

Front and rear discs on a bike at this price is not a given, and they hold their stopping power when the wheels are wet.

On small wheels, where there is less rim to grab and less time to stop, that matters more than it would on a full-size bike.

DYU D3F Folding Electric Bike view 7

Lit at both ends, including a fog light

A headlight and a rear fog light are fitted from new. A fog light on a bicycle is unusual, and on a dark wet British evening it is the light that makes you visible before your shape is.

There is also cruise control for a long flat stretch, which is rare at any price.

Sealed, and rated for a cold morning

The electronics carry an IP54 rating and the bike is specified to operate from minus ten degrees. That is a January commute in most of the country.

Cold cuts the range on any battery, so expect less in winter than the number suggests, but the bike itself is built to be out in it.

What to do before the first ride

It arrives almost complete.

  • Unfold the frame and lock the hinge
  • Raise the seat post and handlebar and tighten both clamps
  • Check both brakes and the tyre pressure
  • Charge it fully before the first ride

Not for hills, distance or a heavy rider

Small wheels and a small battery mean short journeys. On a long ride or a steep hill you will run out of range and patience together, and the bands in the table below are the honest version of the claim.

Fourteen-inch wheels also drop into potholes a larger wheel rides over, so a badly surfaced road is genuinely unpleasant. The rated payload is the lowest on our shelf: check it in the table against your own weight before you order. Buy this for short urban trips and it is excellent. Buy it for a ten-mile commute and you will regret it by the second week.

Yes. All bikes sold by BikTron that meet UK EAPC rules (250W motor, max 15.5 mph assisted speed, pedal-assisted only) are fully road-legal. You do not need a licence, tax, or insurance to ride them on public roads. Riders must be at least 14 years old.
What about the electric scooters?
Those are different, and the law treats them differently. A privately owned e-scooter cannot legally be ridden on a public road, pavement or cycle lane in the UK, whoever sold it. We sell ours for private land use only, with the landowner's permission, and every scooter product page says so. If you want something you can ride to work, choose an electric bike.
